Thank you for your interest in the Franklin-Avenue Bridge Replacement Project
The City of Astoria Public Works Department is working with David Evans and Associates, Inc. to develop design and construction plans to replace the Franklin Avenue Bridge over 38th Street in the Adair-Uppertown historic district. The current trestle bridge was built in 1949 from wooden timbers, which typically have a 35 to 50-year lifespan. The new bridge will be constructed of concrete or steel and will accommodate vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians for many years in the future. The anticipated cost of the new bridge is approximately $3.5 to 4.5 million. The Federal Highway Bridge Program, administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation, will fund 90% of the cost to replace the bridge.

Your Input Matters!
A public open house was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Astor Elementary School in Astoria. 38 people attended the meeting and provided comments about proposed conceptual designs for the replacement of the Franklin Avenue Bridge. Input was gathered about bridge types and construction material, fit with the neighborhood, cost and design elements such as lighting and railing. Public input is helping influence the design of the bridge, which will be announced this summer. Please click here to view the open house meeting summary.
